Which is Better? 4-Year Engineering Data Science & AI or 3-Year B.Sc. Data Science Course?
Before deciding about a 4-year Engineering Degree or a 3-year Degree in Data Science and AI, you need to gain clarity about a few things.
- Clarity about Job Role and Qualifications Required: You need to check the JD (Job Description) of “Data Analyst” Roles, as predominantly companies hire for Data Analysts. Students must read more JDs to understand better. You can check online job portals like Naukri to learn about these things. A sample JD is given below as a screenshot.
It must be noted that even students who have completed B.Sc. Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics can also apply for Data Analyst roles. It doesn’t matter whether you do a three-year degree or 4-year degree. Recruiters will look out for the technical skills and abilities for that role – based on which they may select you. Your skills and capabilities matter more than your educational qualifications!
2. Skills come by Practice: Learning Data Science, clearing exams, and getting a degree may not do good for you. You need Skills. Skills come by Practice. When you are studying in college you are doing a lot of projects to practice data analysis skills.
3. Duration of course doesn’t matter. We have seen graduates from different backgrounds who take up 6 months of data analytics, and data science courses to transform into data analyst roles. So, find the fastest route or an option that can get you into data analyst as soon as possible! Because, new technologies will keep coming and you need to learn those as well!
